We understand it takes courage to try something that’s completely outside of your comfort zone. We promise that during your first experience with us you will be amazed at how you CAN DO THIS. Trust us. We’ve had tons of people come in the door who were heavier, weaker, older, and less coordinated than you are, and they were totally fine.
What if I’m REALLY out of shape and I’m kind of terrified?
Do you offer personal training?
Yes. The CrossFit Zanshin staff holds certifications in Personal Training, Gymnastics, Olympic lifting, Mobility and other training modalities that enhance personal training sessions. Email coachpete@
Will I get big and bulky?
No, unlike bodybuilders, who train in a more isolated, specific way, we train using functional movements. That is, movements that your body was designed to do. CrossFit is the most effective way to build strength, burn fat, and increase cardio capacity.
What are classes like?
Each session includes an extended warm up, skills practice, coaching of technique, the main WOD (Workout Of the Day) and cool down and stretch.
What should I expect in my first class?
Each session is a fun and challenging experience. Classes start with a dynamic warm-up to get you loosened up and ready to train. After the warm up you will be taken through skill training and instruction on movement standards to improve your technique and ensure that you can safely perform the movements for the WOD (workout of the day).
Once you are ready with your scaling options and you have ran through the movements the entire class will tackle the WOD together. At the end it’s high fives and fist bumps all round before we hit a cool down and stretch together.
Do I need prior experience to take class?
No. New members participate in our 6-Week Stronger New You program for a smooth transition into general classes. The beauty of CrossFit is that all exercises are based on movements that you already do in everyday life such as squatting, pushing and pulling. Exercises are scaled to improve both beginner and elite athletes depending where they are at in their fitness journey.
Do you recommend training daily?
No. Maximum benefits are derived from intensity and recovery. We offer a complete health and fitness program, and so we recommend that you take time to recover so that you perform your best at every session. This will prevent injury and backsliding from over-training. On the other hand it is important that your training is consistent. Generally, we recommend our members train 3 days on and 1 day off.
What makes CrossFit Zanshin different from other gyms ?
CrossFit is about variance and adaptation. We “program” our workouts for General Physical Preparedness. That means we don’t have leg days, back-and-bi days, or cardio days. We believe the body is a whole system and that the best form of training is that which strengthens the body as a whole unit. We do this by performing functional movements that the body was designed to do naturally.
When you come and train at CrossFit Zanshin you won’t find machines to train on. Instead you will find free weights, pull up bars, jump boxes, skipping ropes and other functional equipment. When you come to class you will train with people who know your name, motivate you and help you get through those tough work outs.
At CrossFit Zanshin you will be trained to be ready for any fitness challenge and generally physically prepared for anything in your everyday life. Plus you’ll live in a healthy body with a strong, lean physique.
The best part is that every workout is lead by a qualified coach. There are no additional fees for the one on one service you will receive every single class. So what are you waiting for? Come in for a free trial and see how CrossFit Zanshin can help you to be the fittest and healthiest that you have ever been!
What can I expect after my first workout ?
It’s our goal that you will feel a part of our amazing community. You will have certainly learned a ton of new skills and met some great people. It is important to note that you will likely feel a bit sore as well. Particularly if this is the first time you have done physical exercise in this way or if it has been a long time since you have trained.
It is important that you move through this soreness and come back in and do another workout as soon as possible. Consistency is key!
Can I come in and workout on my own?
Yes and No. We do offer Open Gym times for current members who have been with us for at least three months. We think you’ll get better, safer, faster results by working with a qualified coach – either in classes or one-on-one sessions – than working out alone. Open Gym allows current members who have been with us a while to come in and work on a specific movement, mobility or make-up a class they missed during the week. There is no coaching and no instruction during Open Gym therefore we do not allow non-members or newbies to participate.
